Hand selected pairs of wampum shells found on Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA are hand polished, drilled, and attached to handmade sterling silver french hooks to create these one of a kind pairs of wampum dangle earrings.
Wampum, treasured for its beautiful hues and stripes of purples and whites, is formed from fragments of quahog seashells that nature has tumbled smooth. Historically, it was used by Native Americans of Cape Cod and other coastal areas for both bargaining and decorative purposes.
Available in your choice of a variety of shapes of pear, freeform, trapezoid, and triangle. The approximate measurements for each of the options are as follows:
White Pear Shaped: 1/2 inch (1.4 cm) wide by 1 1/4 inches (3.2 cm) tall.
Freeform Shaped: 7/8 inches (2.3 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) tall.
Trapezoid with Purple Bottoms: 5/8 inches (1.7 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) tall.
Triangles: 5/8 inches (1.5 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (3.9 cm) tall.
All Purple Trapezoid: 5/8 inches (1.5 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (3.7 cm) tall.
Purple Striped Pear: 7/8 inches (2.1 cm) wide by 1 5/8 inches (4.2 cm) tall.
