Wampum shells found on Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA were hand selected for a match of their colors and shapes. They are bezel set into hand fabricated sterling silver dangle earrings with sterling silver euro leverback ear wires.
Wampum, treasured for its beautiful hues and stripes of purples and whites, is formed from fragments of quahog seashells that nature has tumbled smooth. Historically, it was used by Native Americans of Cape Cod and other coastal areas for both bargaining and decorative purposes.
Available in your choice of a variety of shapes of round pear, freeform, triangle, and long pear. The approximate measurements for each of the options are as follows:
Round Pear: 7/8 inches (2 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) tall
Freeform: 5/8 inches (1.7 cm) wide by 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) tall
Triangle: 7/8 inches (2.3 cm) wide by 1 5/8 inches (4.2 cm) tall
Long Pear: 5/8 inches (1.8 cm) wide by 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cm) tall.
