Wampum shells found on Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA were hand selected and polished for these unique pendants. They are bezel set into hand fabricated sterling silver settings. Available as an oval or triangle shape. Chains and cords are sold separately. (The chain in the photos is a sterling silver 1.25 mm spiga chain.) The approximate pendant measurements are as follows:
Oval: 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide by 7/8 inches (2.2 cm) tall
Triangle: 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide by 5/8 inches (1.7 cm) tall
Wampum, treasured for its beautiful hues and stripes of purples and whites, is formed from fragments of quahog seashells that nature has tumbled smooth. Historically, it was used by Native Americans of Cape Cod and other coastal areas for both bargaining and decorative purposes.
