A multicolor Australian fossil shell opal* glows with its broad flashfire pattern in a beautiful sterling silver bypass ring.  The stone is bezel set on an angle between the narrow style rails of the ring's shank.  The opal, hand cut by local artisan, Bruce London, is approximately 3/8 inches (1 cm) wide by 5/8 inches (1.6 cm) long and is backed with a black epoxy.  The shank of the ring is approximately 2.25 mm at the top with a slight reverse taper to 3 mm at the back of the ring.  The ring sits about 1/4 inch (0.7 cm) off the finger and is currently a size 8.  It is possible for this ring to be sized.  If you would like us to size it, please give us a call at 508-240-3608 before placing your order.

*What are opalized seashells?  Essentially they are ancient shells that as they turned to fossils while buried in the sand, their environment transformed them into opals.  Over 100 million years ago, the Eromanga Sea covered much of inland Australia.  Many fossils are found in these ancient beds today, including opalized seashells.

Caring for the Opals:  Avoid exposing the opal to sharp temperature changes and be sure to remove opal jewelry before bathing or swimming.  When storing your opals, avoid low humidity environments like safety deposit boxes as this will potentially cause your opals to dry out and crack.
